Terms of service

What you may do with Pathayam, what we promise, and what we do not.

The short version.

  • The software is free to run yourself for any noncommercial purpose.
  • Commercial use — including inside a business — needs a separate licence.
  • Your data is yours. One endpoint returns all of it, at any time.
  • Five days after a plan ends, all of it is deleted — backups included, permanently.
  • This is a budgeting tool, not financial, tax or investment advice.
  • Hosting is not open yet. Nobody is charged until it is.

Who we are

These terms are between you and Flaxvin Technologies (flaxvin.tech) (“we”, “us”). Using this website, the demo or the hosted service means you accept them.

The software itself

Pathayam is released under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. That licence, not this page, governs what you may do with the code.

In outline, and the licence text prevails where they differ:

  • Run it, change it and share it for any noncommercial purpose.
  • Your own household, personal study, research, hobby projects and amateur use are all permitted.
  • Charities, schools, universities, public research bodies and government institutions are permitted.
  • Commercial use is not permitted — including running it inside a business, or using it for the books of a company or a freelance practice.
  • Offering it to others as a product or service is not permitted.

A self-hosted installation is yours entirely. We provide no service with it, hold none of its data, and make no promises about it beyond the licence's disclaimer.

The demo

demo.pathayam.app is shared and public. It is filled with invented data, it resets periodically, and anything you enter is visible to other visitors and is destroyed at the next reset. It carries no confidentiality and no availability promise, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time.

Do not enter real financial or personal information into the demo.

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist creates no contract and commits neither of us to anything. Prices shown are what we intend to launch at, and may change before launch. Everyone on the list is told before anyone is charged.

Hosted plans, when hosting opens

Plans, prices and what each includes are set out on the pricing page, which forms part of these terms. All prices are in Indian rupees and are stated exclusive of GST. GST at the prevailing rate — 18% at the time of writing — is added at checkout and shown on your invoice.

  • Billing. Monthly or annual, in advance, from the date you subscribe. Annual is charged at ten months' price.
  • Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. If a renewal payment fails we will tell you, and the five-day deletion window starts when the plan lapses.
  • Cancellation. Cancel at any time from within the app. Your plan continues to the end of the period already paid for; it is not prorated. Five days after it ends, your data is deleted — see below.
  • Refunds. Fees already paid are not refunded, including for a period you stop using part way through. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not return the current one. You can run the software free for as long as you like and use the demo before paying anything, so there is no need to buy in order to find out whether it suits you.
  • Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before a change affects your renewal. You may cancel instead.
  • The forwarding add-on is billed separately, on the same cycle, and can be cancelled on its own.

Payment is taken by Razorpay. We do not receive or store your card number, CVV or UPI credentials.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or over.
  • Give accurate account details and keep them current.
  • Keep access to your Google account secure; anyone who has it has your household's finances.
  • Everyone you invite to your household can see and change the household budget. You are responsible for who you invite and for what they do.

Your data

What you enter is yours. We claim no ownership of it and use it only to provide the service, as set out in the privacy policy.

  • One endpoint returns everything, in an open format, at any time, on every plan.
  • The underlying database is a SQLite file. Cancelling gets you the file.
  • When a plan ends, everything is deleted five days later. Cancellation, expiry and failed payment are all the same: after five days the live database, every backup and every attachment are gone, permanently and unrecoverably. We keep no archive and cannot restore it afterwards, whatever the reason. Export first — one endpoint, any time, every plan.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service to break the law, or to store data you have no right to hold.
  • Attempt to reach another customer's data, or to probe, scan or overload the service.
  • Resell the hosted service, or use it to run a service for third parties.
  • Automate against it in a way that degrades it for others. API tokens are rate limited and the limits are published.

Availability

We aim to keep the hosted service up and will give notice of planned maintenance where we can. We do not offer an uptime guarantee or service credits. Support response times are those described on the pricing page for your plan.

Not financial advice

Pathayam records and arithmetic. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to do anything with your money. Figures it reports — interest, realised gains, holding periods, net worth — are computed from what you entered, for your own records. It computes no tax liability. Check anything that matters against your bank, your statements and a qualified professional.

No warranty

The service and the software are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, that it will be free of defects, or that any figure it reports is correct.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for lost profits, lost savings, lost data, or any financial decision taken on the basis of what the software displayed.

Our total liability arising out of the hosted service, on any basis, is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Suspension and termination

You may stop at any time. We may suspend or end an account for a material breach of these terms, for non-payment, or where continuing would be unlawful — with notice and a chance to put it right, except where the breach makes that impossible. However an account ends, the five-day deletion above applies from that point. If we end the service entirely, we will give at least 90 days' notice and your export will keep working throughout.

Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top changes with them, and a material change is emailed to account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Kochi, Kerala have exclusive jurisdiction, save that either party may seek urgent injunctive relief anywhere.
